“Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put I more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.” (Luke 21:4). Christ invites us to imitate the poor widow, who understood clearly that everything she had was on loan from God. Indeed, “giving” for her was not a pledge, but an offering, a sacrifice to God as a mark of respect and love. Offerings are the gifts of the faithful to God, without necessarily and set reference to proportion of increase or income. That is why the best way to imitate the poor widow is to offer generously to the Church.
